Princess In Black - Shannon Hale & Dean Hale (2014)

Out-of-the-world Princess

Princesses are pretty. Princesses are perfect. Princesses wear pink. Princesses ride ponies. (Ufff... how many 'p's?) But, not this princess Magnolia. The authors Shannon Hale and Dean Hale portray a princess who breaks almost every rule of 'Princess' community.

Princess Magnolia (minus her thrilling secret) is a perfect princess, sipping hot chocolate in a gracious way, with her nosy guest, Duchess Wigtower. All goes well, until Princess' monster alarm sounds 'Brring'. Without making the Duchess to doubt her, now the princess needs to change from adorable pink to mighty black and become 'Princess In Black'.

The Princess in Black fights back the monster, saves the goat and the goat-boy. But, there is a surmounting tension as the nosy Duchess finds the black stockings of Princess Magnolia. Will the Princess' secret be out?

My Comment :

Truth : I read this book for myself and not for my kids. With me, being the only "girl" of the house, our house is dominated with boy "stuff". So, I decided to take a break and read this book for myself. The child in me, loved this book.

To start with, the authors have come up with an amazing plot. A princess with a pseudo-identity and fighting monsters in black is ravishing. The idea could grab the love of any girl, who is reading the book. (And, yes, my boys said "This is a girl's book", without fail). Though a chapter book, it moves in a quick pace and could keep the attention of young readers, the whole time. (I took just 15 minutes to finish reading the book and later I reread too.)

The cheerful and colorful illustrations of the book, totally complements the plot and a pleasure to view. Large font-size, pretty layouts and other small details add to the beauty of the book. (The next time, I check for gifts for my friends' daughters, this book is in the must-buy list.)

While basking in the pink & purple glow, it is really worth to check on this Princess In Black. Might be, black is the new pink.
